A Mother’s Day Miracle

Mother's Day MiracleI’ve always loved Mother’s Day.  A day to celebrate my amazing mom and thank her for the special bond we share.

Amy Lewis knows all about having a strong mother/daughter bond. She’s spent nearly six months in the cardiac intensive care unit at Children’s fighting alongside her baby, Brynn, who was born with multiple serious heart defects.

When I talked to Amy today, I could hear the exhaustion in her voice as she described the tense moments of keeping Brynn calm because an increased heart rate could be life threatening. The days spent staring at her baby and praying for a new heart to become available. She didn’t know if Brynn would make it to the next Mother’s Day so she planned to cherish every moment of this one.

On Sunday, while Amy encouraged Brynn to keep fighting, another mom said goodbye to her baby and gave Amy the best Mother’s Day gift of all – a new heart for Brynn. Drs. Joseph Forbess and Kristine Guleserian took the tiny heart and placed it in Brynn’s chest.

Today, only two days after her transplant, Brynn’s breathing tube will be removed and afterward, Amy will be right by her side to calm her down – this time feeling her new heartbeat.

“I like to think that Brynn and God got together and said, ‘Mom’s had it hard so let’s give her something special on Mother’s Day,”‘ Amy said.

    >God had his plans in place. What an awesome God! Not only Did Amy get the most gracious gift a mother could receive, Brynn has given Henderson and an unknown number of other areas a new insight in working and praying together. Yes, I do believe God had it planned just the way he and Brynn wanted :) God Bless you Brynn and hurry home!! We love you!
