Today is opening day of the great State Fair of Texas! And we’re happy to say the Children’s Medical Center Barnyard petting zoo will be there once again. Don’t forget, when you and your kids stop by to pet the pigs or any animals, use the hand sanitizer available in dispensers all around the Barnyard.
There has been a lot in the news about the rising number of people across the nation contracting a new strain of swine flu. But our infectious diseases physicians say there are simple precautions that can be taken to protect children and families while interacting with pigs or any of the animals at the fair.
- Don’t take food or drink into areas where pigs (or any farm animals) are located.
- Don’t take pacifiers, cups, baby bottles, strollers or similar items into areas where pigs and other farm animals are kept.
- Wash your hands before and after interacting with farm animals.
We hope you enjoy the Barnyard this year and have a great time at the State Fair of Texas!
