Children’s Medical Center Dallas Invites North Texas Community to Health and Wellness Fair

As Children’s Medical Center Dallas continues to celebrate its centennial year, it will host its first community Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dallas Ambulatory Care Pavilion parking lot (2350 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas). Admission is free and open to families across North Texas.

As the fifth-largest pediatric hospital in the U.S., Children’s Medical Center is hosting the Community Health and Wellness Fair to ensure children and families in North Texas have access to health services and information. The day begins with a fun run/walk at 8 a.m. (register at funrun@childrens.com) with additional wellness activities beginning at 10 a.m.:

  • Pediatric flu shots
  • Dental check-ups
  • Sickle cell information
  • Asthma management
  • Bike helmet fittings
  • Scoliosis information
  • CHIP and Medicaid application assistance
  • Obesity health consequence information

Professionals from Sports Medicine, Child Life and “Get Covered America” will be available to provide families information and answer questions.

During the event, Children’s also will give away diapers and wipes courtesy of Kimberly-Clark, food and drinks, backpacks, T-shirts and hand sanitizers. Entertainment during the fair will feature live music, performance by the Sunset High School Bisonettes, cooking demonstrations, face painting, train rides, the Teddy Bear Clinic and the popular Children’s Funnyatrics Clown Troupe.

Special guests include former U.S. Rep. Tom McMillen, founder of the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition; U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson; and Marjorie Petty, regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Children’s recognizes many families in our community do not have consistent access to quality medical care,” says Christopher J. Durovich, president and chief executive officer of Children’s. “The Health and Wellness Fair is one of our many efforts to deliver the right care, at the right time, in the right place, with the right resources in order to make life better for children in our community.”
