Will J.J. Pearce Pull Off a Three-Peat?

It’s an American dream. Baseball, football, apple pie and Chevrolet. One of those is starting up this week – football. That means my house will turn into “ESPN central” with non-stop talk of football plays and football games on TV. Don’t get me started on the distant sound of football clothes washing every night and constant visits to the grocery store to stock up on food and Gatorade for the starving football players.

This Week’s Game

This week we are excited that Richardson’s J.J. Pearce will be starting the season against Lake Dallas, and the game will be televised on Channel 21, Thursday night at 7 p.m. Tune in to watch some great football. Pearce has played Lake Dallas for the past two years, and each year Pearce has been picked as the underdog. Despite the critics, two years ago in the last seconds of the game Pearce kicked a field goal and won. Last year Pearce came from behind in the fourth quarter and scored 22 straight points to win by four. This year should prove to be another exciting match up.

Strong Returning Players

Pearce has several promising seniors who have strong chances of playing in college next year. At 6’3” and 285 pounds, Jake Anthony, offensive left guard, is being recruited by numerous Division 1 colleges. He has the size, determination, strength and smarts to be an amazing player for many years to come. This is running back Kedron Banks’ third year on varsity. He is being recruited by at least a dozen colleges and will be Pearce’s most valuable weapon for running the ball this season. Kedron is lightning fast and works very hard.

The Pearce offense has eight returning starters including senior quarterback Rhett Svetgoff and five offensive linemen. An impact player who did not start last year is senior wide receiver Ryan Stanton, who scored two touchdowns in the scrimmage last week against North Mesquite. The Pearce defense shows promise, especially on the defensive line with players Jacob Brazzle and Marcel Watson. Last year, Jake, Marcel, Kedron, Aaron Hoffman, J.R. Griffin and Preston Baker received City of Richardson All-City Team recognition with Jake, Marcel and Kedron also being named to the All-District team. Marcel received “New Comer of the Year for the District”, too.

Folks, tune in Thursday evening for a great matchup between Pearce and Lake Dallas.  “Are ya ready for some football?
