Will Warriors Stay Undefeated in District?

Thursday night, Nov. 8 is the long awaited match-up between the Arlington Martin Warriors and Arlington Bowie Volunteers. This is what we’ve known all season would likely be the determiner of who wins the District 3-5A Championship. Both teams arrive tonight with unbeaten records in district play and impressive results from pre-season games against some of the best teams in the state.

Last year, the Martin Warriors advanced to the State Quarter-Finals.  Our phenomenal success can largely be attributed to our unparalleled coaching staff, led by extraordinary head coach Bob Wager. Coach Wager and his staff take every week’s game seriously, so even though we are playing Bowie, one of the best teams in the state, I think Coach Wager has followed the same weekly preparation strategy they utilize every week to rack up win after win. Bowie will be no different.

Great Coaches and Great Players

Of course a great coaching staff can’t do anything without great players, and Martin has several.  Kyle Hicks, who is often regarded as one of the best running backs in the country, has already committed to play for the University of Texas.  Ben Grogan is one of the top kickers in the nation, and is fielding offers from around the country. The defense is lead by Jordan Avery as middle linebacker, along with Trevor Stewart and Myles Garrett, who even as a junior is already being pursued by top teams in the SEC, Big 12 and Big 10.  QB and defensive back Matt Waller does an extraordinary job playing both ways and on every special team.

The great thing about our players is in addition to being outstanding athletes, they are outstanding young men. It doesn’t take long to sense the high standards the Martin Warriors hold for themselves both on and off the field.  We look forward to bringing that wealth of experience to the field tonight as we face the Bowie Volunteers.

Sharon Hoisager’s son Colton is a junior, first-year varsity player, and husband Daryl is booster club president.
